The Gold Coast
Queensland
Australia
One of the Northern States
of Australia is Queensland. It is a huge State with extreme contrasts
in climate, lifestyle and economic activity. It is quite possible to
spend weeks or months exploring the State.
The Southern region has a temperate climate making it pleasant, if not
ideal, all year round with a higher range from December to April. The
North is tropical with all the wonder and inconvenience that high
rainfall and temperature creates.
In future articles we will look at Far North Queensland from
Townsville to Cape York. For now we are on the Gold Coast.
South East Queensland adjoins the South Pacific Ocean which has South
East Trade winds during most of the year. The climate is comfortable
and the lifestyle is easy going for most.
There is a coastal strip between the inland hills and the coast that
has become on long urban
area fronting the ocean. From Coolangatta in the South on the
Queensland - New South Wales Border, to Main Beach in the North, there
are unlimited places to enjoy a holiday.
Getting there is easy...rail from Brisbane...bus from anywhere in
Australia...airlines to Coolangatta Airport or car.
Staying there includes holiday houses, camping grounds, backpackers,
apartments ( of
all standards ) to hotels, luxury resorts and beachfront highrise units.
Once you have arrived as a solo traveler, package participant or as a
family, you are ready to
make sure you have a good time.
Beaches
Early mornings are best for the beach...around 11 am the wind picks up
making the water choppy and the sky cloudy. The beaches are packed with
people between the flags guarded by lifesavers.
Crowds are fine because you can have a good time with others doing the
same under the eyes of professional Lifeguards with towers, radios and
rescue equipment.
Any beach will do...at any time you can find a sheltered guarded beach
at one of the headlands such as famous Snapper Rocks at Rainbow Bay
where annual surf championships are held, to Burleigh Heads and
Currumbin Rocks.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to use a car or bus to explore the
coast before making choices as to where you want to stay or swim. Every
beach suburb has its own characteristics.
Resorts
Resorts are self contained pockets of indulgence and they leave nothing
for you to do.... Pools, food, gymnasiums and sundecks make it
posssible to never leave your apartment complex unless you want to. One
even has a Casino on site ! This is Conrad Jupiters at Broadbeach which
is also served by a mono rail from the Broadbeach shops, hotels and
beachfront.
Golf Resorts.
Too many to mention...all excellent courses with first class service.
Seaworld Nara
Resort
On the waterfront at Main Beach is Seaworld Nara Resort which adjoins
Seaworld. An
elevated monorail train takes you to Seaworld where you could spend as
many days as you want having a good time.
Seaworld Nara Resort has specials making the Seaworld - Gold Coast Nara
package great value.
Seaworld is where you will
have a good time.

Movieworld &
Dreamworld
A few minutes up the road towards Brisbane you have Movieworld and
Dreamworld where you can spend another day or two having a good time.
Each is different so you should include both.
Movieworld and Dreamworld buses collect visitors from their
accommodation.
Wet n Wild
This is a waterpark where visitors and locals mix in many swimming,
riding, sliding, rafting, falling
attractions. Lots to do and you will need a full day. Sunscreen !
Local Tours
The Gold Coast has a range of hills parallel to the Coast. These hills
attract a lot of rainfall making them lush and tropical...tropical
vegetation and trees populate despite the region having a temperate
climate.
Several tour companies use 4 x 4 vehicles to take small groups on
guided tours of the lookouts, gullies and huge National Parks.
These tours are fully catered and are excellent value as you enjoy
transport, food & expert commentary.
One such locally owned operator is Mountain Trek Adventures run by David and Judy Sharpe.
Shopping.
Duty Free - Pacific Fair Shopping Center - and Surfers Paradsie
itself are places where you can look or buy for another full day. So
much to see and do.
Every town that is part of the Gold Coast has its own shopping area.
Each with its own style or theme. The Gold Coast is a destination for
surfers so there are board shops and outlets for surf gear at almost
all shopping areas.
Doing nothing
You can do nothing at all... stay where you have "booked in" and enjoy
yourself. No one need bother you. If you want a good time there are
night clubs, hotels and resort restaurants.
The Gold Coast is what you want it to be.
