Independent Presidential Candidate Frank McEnulty announces his plans for dealing with illegal immigration.

 

Los Angeles, CA, 04/27/07 - The simple fact is illegal aliens are here because our politicians allowed them to come because they are cheap labor.  But it has gotten out of hand. We need to clean up the mess their policies --and lack of enforcement of current laws -- has created.  What follows is how Presidential Candidate Frank McEnulty would deal with the situation it clear and concise terms.

 

America was founded by immigrants.  Immigration can be a great thing,  bringing new ideas, new enthusiasm and new life to the country.  We just can't afford to continue to take in the large quantities of poor from the rest of the world as we have over the last decade. 

 

How do we begin to solve this? Three things: 

 

• Develop a sensible system for dealing with the illegal aliens already here
• Properly control the borders  
• Vigorously enforce the penalties for hiring illegal aliens

 

Remember, while the majority of illegal aliens do work, they also artificially depress wages and, while that may not hurt you, I'm sure it has hurt someone you know and eventually it will hurt your children and grandchildren.

 

At the moment it can and has been argued that there are anywhere from 5,000,000 to 15,000,000 illegal immigrants in this country.  Add in their babies and other American born dependents and who knows how many people this wave of illegal immigration is responsible for at this time.  So what do we do now?

  

Develop a sensible system for dealing with the illegal aliens already here.

First, in spite of all the rhetoric by some groups, no one is going to lead a round-up of all of the illegal immigrants and send them back "home".  We are too nice as a people to ever participate in the forced relocation of millions of people.  Besides, they do contribute to society (net negative or net positive is open to debate), but we need to make them contribute on the same level and under the same rules as everyone else in America participates on a daily basis.

 

1 - All people in the country illegally would have to register as a foreign guest-worker within 90 days in order to ever obtain citizenship.  If you don't register within 90 days, you are in a separate class and face a much harder road to move forward towards legal working status and citizenship.

 

2 - In addition to having to register, all illegal aliens would have to open bank accounts and obtain legal, taxable jobs if they hope to ever obtain citizenship.  Household employees would need their employers to start paying taxes on them, gardeners would have to start recording their income like real businessmen and everyone would get back on a level playing field. 

 

3 - In order to obtain citizenship, a process that I envision taking at least 3 years and up to 10 years depending on how long the individual can prove they have been in the country the following qualifications will have to be met.

 

-         Registration, as stated above, in the required amount of time and other requirements of the registration rules.

-         Opening of a bank account, having a regular, on the books job and paying taxes.

-         Absolutely no criminal record including not having such offenses as driving without a license, driving without insurance or drunk driving.

-         At least an 8^th grade grasp of the English language.

-         Payment of a fee of an amount large enough to cover the costs of all the services required to become a citizen of the United States.

 

These rules are fairly simple.  As President, Frank McEnulty would do one thing to ensure that this situation doesn't happen again, he would make sure that our laws are enforced.

 

Properly control the borders

Frank McEnulty would strictly enforce and apply the rules against hiring illegal immigrant workers.  If an illegal immigrant worker cannot find a job there will be much less reason to come here illegally.

 

Vigorously enforce the penalties for hiring illegal aliens

Frank McEnulty would direct that all instances of hiring of illegal aliens be subject to penalty by jail time - real jail time, not a "country club" jail.  It's real simple for an employer to pay a fine and move on - that's just a cost of doing business.  It's not so simple to ignore the threat of real jail time in a real criminal jail.  No one wants to face that prospect.

 

Mr. McEnulty also believes that we need to amend the Constitution so that only those born of American citizens become citizens of this country upon birth.  The founders of our country could not and would not ever envisioned the fact that there are hundreds of thousands of babies being born each year in United States hospitals solely so their parents can use their anchor babies as an excuse to demand to stay here and take benefits from the rest of us.

 

It's really that simple.  If the laws are enforced and there aren't any jobs for illegal aliens then there will be no reason for them to sneak across the boarder and come here.  Frank McEnulty's plan will help to make the millions of people already here a solid part of American society, bring them into the economy and help them to realize their dream of becoming an American.  While at the same time, preventing this situation from occurring again.

 

As I mentioned before, immigration can be a great thing. We just have to do it in a rational and planned way to ensure that life remains good for all Americans.
